The trip was an opportunity for students to work on independent living and social skills. During the trek, students safely navigated sidewalks and practiced road-crossing skills. On arrival, they respectfully engaged with restaurant staff, utilizing a variety of communication methods, including prepared scripts and computerized communication devices (AAC). Students also worked on social skills by conversing with classmates and teachers while practicing patience and appropriate behavior waiting for and receiving their treats.
This and more real-world learning experience are made possible through a generous grant from the Springfield Public Schools Foundation and the Donely family.
The staff at the Dairy Queen location were wonderful with their patience and welcoming personality, which helped ensure a positive and successful learning experience for all students.
The Lanphier High School Life Skills Program is providing students with the academic, vocational, and social training necessary for successful transition into post-secondary life.
