We will see you back here at LHS on Monday, March 24th. -As we know, this school year, there is a new district-wide cell phone policy that must be followed by all students and enforced by all staff members. When students enter the building, all electronic devices must be powered off and put away so they are not visible (for example: In a Chromebook bag, small purse, in your locker, etc.). The policy applies even in the hallways/bathrooms/between classes, etc. The ONLY place where your electronic devices can be on and used is during lunch in the Atrium/Cafeteria/Courtyard area. It must be powered back off and put up before the bell rings to dismiss you from lunch. This policy is now in full effect here at LHS. - Now for a moment of silence - Please Rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Now it is time for today’s welcoming ritual, please take a moment to discuss your response with your class: Today is another school day of Women’s History Month! Each day, we will be highlighting a woman who is making history here at LHS, giving an inspirational quote from a Woman of History, and having a trivia question about women of history! Today’s history making woman at LHS is: Ms. Powell!!! Ms. Powell is a member of our administration team, she came to Lanphier in 2019 as a member of the teaching staff! She has been teaching since 2004! Ms. Powell enjoys the students here at LHS! She also enjoys encouraging students to advocate for themselves. She wants LHS students to feel heard and & valued. She also loves running into former students in the community & hearing about their life after High School (this is what makes the long days worth it !) If you see Ms. Powell today, thank her for being a great leader of our school, her positive attitude, and her willingness to help any student in need. A woman of history that inspires Ms. Powell is Former Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg! Ms. Powell finds her inspiring because of her fight for equal rights and her determination to never back down from a fight. Her determination is/was a good reminder of how change can happen through passion, leadership & persistence. Ruth Bader Ginsburg once said, “ fight for the things that you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you” Women’s History Trivia: Yesterday’s trivia answer is that there are currently only 4 women on The Supreme Court. Today’s trivia question is from 1973 to 1980, Ruth Bader Ginsburg served as the general counsel for which group and even launched the group’s Women’s Project? Teachers: Please discuss with your class, and email Mr. Anderson at mranderson@sps186.org with your answer in the subject line of the email for a chance to win a special prize by the end of the week! Have a Great Day lions! |
