-This school year we have an exciting opportunity that is being brought to LHS by SIU Medicine - Lunchtime Yoga for both students and staff! The final session will occur during BOTH A & B on September 26th! The September 25th lunchtime Yoga date had to be canceled. There are 20 slots available on each date during each lunch shift, so make sure you gather some friends and sign up ASAP. You find the sign-up link on your Global Canvas announcements. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity and resource!

-Reminder to those who have signed up to donate blood - the blood drive is tomorrow, Wednesday, September 25th in the Gardner/Wrestling Gym. See Mrs. Corcoran in the library if you have questions.

-This school year, there is a new district-wide cell phone policy that must be followed by all students and enforced by all staff members. When students enter the building, all electronic devices must be powered off and put away so they are not visible (for example: In a Chromebook bag, small purse, in your locker, etc.). The policy applies even in the hallways/bathrooms/between classes, etc. The ONLY place where your electronic devices can be on and used is during lunch in the Atrium/Cafeteria/Courtyard area. It must be powered back off and put up before the bell rings to dismiss you from lunch. This policy is now in full effect here at LHS.

-September 15th kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month; this event spans through October 16th. As we recognize this month, we will be sharing facts about Hispanic Heritage as well as recognizing important people that have impacted Hispanic history. Today we recognize Justice Sonya Sotomayor. In 2009, she was appointed to the federal bench by President Barack Obama. She is the first Latina on the bench and the fourth woman to serve on the highest court in the U.S. Sotomayor has been a part of two major historic rulings. She was among the six justices to uphold the Affordable Care Act in King vs. Burwell in 2015. The decision allowed the federal government to continue to provide subsidies to those who purchase health care whether state or federally funded. She also sided with the majority in Obergefell vs Hodges in 2015, a decision that made same sex marriage legal in all 50 states.Sotomayor's origin story is relatable to hundreds of young Americans. After her father died at an early age, she was raised by a single mother in the housing projects of the Bronx and through hard work she earned degrees from both Princeton University and Yale Law School.

-Now for a moment of silence.

-Please Rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

And now it’s time for today’s welcoming ritual. Please take a moment to discuss your response with your class: Since we are only in the first few days of the fall season, we want to know...what's your favorite season of the year and WHY?

Have a great day Lions!
