-Hey! Hey! You! You! Join Scholastic Bowl!  That’s right, Lanphier’s Premiere Scholastic Bowl Team is starting up and meeting Tuesdays, After School in Room 3-002!  It’s the perfect I-S-H-A sport for those who’d rather flex the gray matter between the ears then run around a field!  We are now putting together this year’s team, and Mr. Dulski NEEDS YOU!  It’s fun! It’s grand! We get to visit other high schools!  We get to learn and have fun as a team!  If you have any questions, see Mr. Dulski in room 3-002, if not see you TOMORROW!

-Art club will be meeting on Tuesday in art room 2-060 on the second floor (Mr. Wilson’s room)! Come out and make some fun things! We will be meeting every Tuesday after school this year.

-This school year we have an exciting opportunity that is being brought to LHS by SIU Medicine - Lunchtime Yoga for both students and staff! The final session will occur during BOTH A & B on September 26th! The September 25th lunchtime Yoga date had to be canceled. There are 20 slots available on each date during each lunch shift, so make sure you gather some friends and sign up ASAP. You find the sign-up link on your Global Canvas announcements. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity and resource!

-It’s time to donate blood and save lives! National Honor Society is hosting a blood drive THIS Wednesday, September 25th. We have 45 blood donor slots to fill. If students or staff would like to give blood on September 25th, visit Mrs. Corcoran in the library to sign up for a time slot. You must be at least 16 years old to give blood. Donors receive their choice of a $20 gift card to places like Walmart, Amazon, Starbucks, and more.

-This year in order to attend extracurricular and school/district events you will have to meet grade, attendance, behavior, and tardy criteria. Here is the criteria: you must have 8 or less tardies for the current quarter, you must have 5 or less absences for the current quarter, you CANNOT have ANY suspensions in the current quarter, and you must be passing 5 out of 7 of your classes at the time of the event.

-September 15th kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month; this event spans through October 16th. As we recognize this month, we will be sharing facts about Hispanic Heritage as well as recognizing important people that have impacted Hispanic history. Today we recognize Octaviano Larrazola who was born in Mexico in 1859 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1870. As a champion of civil rights and equal treatment for Hispanic Americans, he began his political career in 1886. Larrazola was eventually elected as the fourth governor of New Mexico in 1918, and 10 years later was elected as the first Hispanic American to serve as a U.S. Senator. He challenged the GOP in the early 20th century, asking, “Why is it not the party in conjunction with the allies in these later days to be entrusted with the task of making the whole world free?”

-Now for a moment of silence.

-Please Rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. "I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

And now it’s time for today’s welcoming ritual. Please take a moment to discuss your response with your class: Yesterday was officially the first day of Fall! What is one of your favorite fall activities or something you are looking forward to during the fall season?

Have a great day Lions!
