-Hey! Hey! You! You! Join Scholastic Bowl!  That’s right, Lanphier’s Premiere Scholastic Bowl Team is starting up and meeting Tuesdays, After School in Room 3-002! Yup, even TODAY!  It’s the perfect I-S-H-A sport for those who’d rather flex the gray matter between the ears then run around a field!  We are now putting together this year’s team, and Mr. Dulski NEEDS YOU!  It’s fun! It’s grand! We get to visit other high schools!  We get to learn and have fun as a team!  If you have any questions, see Mr. Dulski in room 3-002, if not see you TODAY!

-Art club will be meeting on Tuesday in art room 2-060 on the second floor (Mr. Wilson’s room)! Come out and make some fun things! We will be meeting every Tuesday after school this year.

-It’s time to donate blood and save lives! National Honor Society is hosting a blood drive next Wednesday, September 25th. We have 45 blood donor slots to fill. If students or staff would like to give blood on September 25th, visit Mrs. Corcoran in the library to sign up for a time slot. You must be at least 16 years old to give blood. Donors receive their choice of a $20 gift card to places like Walmart, Amazon, Starbucks, and more.

-This school year we have an exciting opportunity that is being brought to LHS by SIU Medicine - Lunchtime Yoga for both students and staff! Sessions will occur during BOTH A & B Lunch on the following dates: September 19th & September 26th! The September 25th lunchtime Yoga date had to be canceled. There are 20 slots available on each date during each lunch shift, so make sure you gather some friends and sign up ASAP. You find the sign-up link on your Global Canvas announcements. Don’t miss out on this great opportunity and resource!

-This school year, there is a new district-wide cell phone policy that must be followed by all students and enforced by all staff members. When students enter the building, all electronic devices must be powered off and put away so they are not visible (for example: In a Chromebook bag, small purse, in your locker, etc.). The policy applies even in the hallways/bathrooms/between classes, etc. The ONLY place where your electronic devices can be on and used is during lunch in the Atrium/Cafeteria/Courtyard area. It must be powered back off and put up before the bell rings to dismiss you from lunch. This policy is now in full effect here at LHS.

-If you see our amazing LHS security guard Doug Collins today, please wish him a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We love you Mr. Collins and hope you have an amazing day!

-September 15th kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month; this event spans through October 16th. As we recognize this month, we will be sharing facts about Hispanic Heritage as well as recognizing important people that have impacted Hispanic history. In the United States, Latinas and Latinos have been game changers when it comes to athletics. For example, over the years, the Latino community has helped to shape America’s favorite pastime—baseball. As of opening day in 2023, about 30 percent of Major League Baseball players were Hispanic/Latino. With the accomplishments of past players like Roberto Clemente and present ones such as Francisco Lindor and Javier Báez leading the way, the sport will continue to evolve. Latina women have also shaped baseball history, serving as players, broadcasters, and team owners. In the 1990s, Linda Alvarado purchased the Colorado Rockies and made history as the first woman to ever win a bid to buy a team. This purchase also resulted in her becoming the first Hispanic MLB team owner. The contributions of Latina women like Alvarado and others, such as baseball player Margaret "Marge" Villa and sportscaster Jessica Mendoza, have forever transformed the game of baseball.-Now for a moment of silence.

-Please Rise for the Pledge of Allegiance.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

And now it’s time for today’s welcoming ritual. Please take a moment to discuss your response with your class: Today is National Cheeseburger Day! It is a day to honor America's favorite sandwich with a slice of cheese! Let's celebrate this delicious food holiday together and answer the following question and share your response with your class: What fast food restaurant has your FAVORITE cheeseburger? What is your specific order?

Have A Great Day Lions!
